1,000 Dutch residents at war with Jeff Bezos’ new superyacht

Jeff Bezos’ new megayacht is under construction in the Netherlands, where a historic bridge may need to be dismantled in order to cross it.

Some Dutch residents will surely not instigate him but, when he passes, they will throw eggs at his yacht.

Rotterdam locals turned to Facebook to plan an event called “Jeff Bezos’ Superyacht Egg Launch” in protest.

“Calling all the Rotterdammers, take a box of rotten eggs with you and throw them en masse at Jeff’s superyacht when he sails through the Hef in Rotterdam,” reads the event description. “Rotterdam was built from the rubble by the inhabitants of Rotterdam, and we don’t distinguish it for the phallic symbol of a megalomaniac billionaire. Not without a fight! “

At the time of writing this article, around 1,200 people have signed up to attend the event and 4,900 people are interested. The event is scheduled for June 1st. It is expected that the

Bezos’ megayacht will cost $ 500 million and is now under construction in Alblasserdam, the Netherlands, by shipbuilding company Oceanco. Once completed, the 417-foot ship will have to travel through Rotterdam to reach the ocean and eventually Bezos.

The problem, however, is that the megayacht’s three masts are too tall to pass under the 131-foot space of Rotterdam’s Koningshaven Bridge. Known locally as De Hef, the bridge is nearly 100 years old and is considered something of a landmark of the city. After the bridge was renovated in 2017, the city promised it would never be dismantled, according to Dutch broadcaster Rijnmond.

Rotterdam Mayor Ahmed Aboutaleb said Thursday that no decision has yet been made on decommissioning the bridge to house the superyacht. If that happens, Bezos or Oceanco may have to pay the bill, he added.
