How to best use bookmarks in Microsoft Word

In Microsoft Word, you can add a word, paragraph, table, chart or picture to bookmarks. Adding a bookmark in a document provides a link to information that you want to refer to again later.

A bookmark saves you time and frustration by not needing to look at every page to find that important detail or a very useful graphic. If you no longer need a bookmark, you can remove it at any time.

Add a bookmark in Microsoft Word

To add or insert a bookmark in a Microsoft Word document, please follow the steps below.

  1. Open a Microsoft Word document.
  2. Find and highlight the words or object you want to bookmark.
  1. In the ribbon, click the tab insert .
  2. On the Insert tab, click the option Bookmark in the section Connections .

  1. In the window Bookmark enter a name for the bookmark in the text field Bookmark name .
  2. Click the button add to add the bookmark.
  3. Click the button Close to close the video window bookmarks .

Access a bookmark in Microsoft Word

To access or go to a bookmark in a Microsoft Word document, please follow the steps below.

  1. Open the Microsoft Word document containing the bookmark you want to access.
  2. In the ribbon, click the tab insert .
  3. On the Insert tab, click the option Bookmark in the section Connections .

  1. In the window Bookmark below the text field Bookmark name select the bookmark you want to access.
  2. Click the button Go to to access that bookmark.
  3. Click the button Close to close the video window bookmarks .

NoteAs shown in the image above, the button Close it’s a button Cancel until the option is selected Go to .

Remove a bookmark in Microsoft Word

To remove or delete a bookmark in a Microsoft Word document, please follow the steps below.

  1. Open the Microsoft Word document containing the bookmark you want to remove.
  2. In the ribbon, click the tab insert .
  3. On the Insert tab, click the option Bookmark in the section Connections .

  1. In the window Bookmark below the text field Bookmark name select the bookmark you want to remove.
  2. Click the button Delete to remove that bookmark.
  3. Click the button Close to close the video window bookmarks .

NoteAs shown in the image above, the button Close appears as a button Cancel until you click the option Delete .
