How to book a plane ticket on Google Flights

This article explains how to buy airline tickets with Google Flights. There are two ways to use Google Flights: search for airline tickets directly from the search engine or visit the Google Flights website to find tickets.

How to search for Google Flights

Google Flights searches for flight prices without ever leaving the Google search engine. You can see which airlines you can choose, choose a specific departure and arrival date and view prices directly in the search results.

For example, you can open a new Google search and type “flights from MCI to New York in October” to tell Google to find flights that match that specific one. Or, if your browser has access to your current location, simply type “flights to New York City” for information on airfares for the nearest airport to where you are now.

The Google Flights website

If you use the Google Flights website, you will see not only a list of flights, but also a map of them on the right, along with your current location. From there, you can change the number of passengers that will fly; choose between first class, economy, etc .; view flights within a flexible time frame; filters results based on many different criteria.

How to filter Google flight results

Google Flights uses many filter options so that you can find the exact flight you are interested in buying. For example, perhaps you have a specific price in mind when looking for tickets, or perhaps you have a specific flight duration, arrival time, or rewards network in mind.

On the Google Flights website, after selecting your departure airport (and return airport if you want a return flight), choose a departure date and a return flight date. Once Google Flights knows these details, it can match you to all types of flights with these filter options:

    • Bags : see only flights with access to the overhead bin.
    • Stop : keep the default option “Any number of stops” or choose from non-stop only, one stop or less, or two stops or less.
    • Airline companies : Allows you to purchase Google tickets for certain airlines only, including alliances such as Star Alliance and SkyTeam.
    • Price : Use this filter to show airline tickets below a certain price. Depending on where you are flying from and where you are departing from, you may have the ability to filter airline ticket prices down to as little as $ 100.
    • Timetables – Choose your outbound or return flight times so that the flight tickets you see on Google Flights are limited to those times only. For example, you could choose 7: 00–11: 00 for the outbound outbound filter to make sure you find a flight that leaves before noon.
    • Connecting airports : Remove any airport from this list if you don’t want your flight to stop there. You can also adjust the stopover duration, for example 1-3 hours, to make sure your flight is fast.
  • Other : this area of Google Flights has two other options. Change the total flight duration here to exclude longer flights from the list. You can also have Google Flights show or hide separate tickets, which are flights you can purchase individually to hopefully get a cheaper overall price for your round-trip combined flight.

There are more options above the filter options, just above the locations you entered. You can switch between round-trip and one-way travel and refine your flights with a weekend trip or a one- or two-week trip and choose the months you want to travel.

After the results are displayed, Google Flights sorts them based on the best flights, price, departure time, arrival time and duration.

If you are viewing Google Flights from the Google search results page, the only options you have are to change the origin and destination airports and choose your flight dates.
