How to change the name of your PlayStation Network on PS4 or PS5

If you are not satisfied with the username you have created for your PSN account, you are not alone: Sony has listened to user requests and made it possible to change your username.

While it was once permanent, now your PSN name can be changed as many times as you want. Here’s how to do it.

What to know before changing the PlayStation Network name

If you’ve been frustrated with choosing your PSN username without thinking about it enough, you might be grateful that it’s possible to change your PSN username. There are some caveats, though.

First, Sony allows you to change your username as many times as you want, even if only the first change is free. There is a $ 10 charge for subsequent name changes, but PlayStation Plus subscribers get name changes for half the discount – $ 5.

You may also encounter some compatibility issues after making a name change. PS3, PS Vita and PS / TV games do not support changed usernames at all, and some PS4 games may not be fully compatible with changed usernames, which can result in the loss of saved game data. Sony has identified over 300 PS4 games with no known issues, but there are around 50 games with known issues, including popular titles such as Grand Theft Auto V, Assassin’s Creed IV Black Flag, Bloodborne, Uncharted 4, The Last of Us Remastered, and others.

You may also wonder about the discoverability of your ID after making a change to your username. While not a perfect solution, you do have the option to view your previous username in your profile for 30 days.
