How to check the battery charge of your AirPods

It can be incredibly frustrating when your AirPods run out of battery, especially if you’re listening to a really good song or podcast. Thankfully, AirPods charge the battery extremely quickly, and checking your AirPods’ battery life is very simple.

With a few simple steps, you can monitor the battery charge on the charging case of the AirPods, as well as the battery of the left and right AirPods.

How to check AirPods battery life on your iPhone or iOS device

Whether you’re on your iPad or iPhone, checking your AirPods’ power is the same, although it may take a few awkward seconds for your device to connect to actually see the battery level.

Here’s what to do …

Open the AirPods case next to your iOS device

For that, you will need your AirPods case with the AirPods inside it and your device. Open the case lid of the AirPods and hold it open while holding the case and device close to each other. After a few seconds, a screen will appear showing the charge level of both the AirPods and the charging case. You can see this screen from your lock screen or home screen.

An easy way to check the battery of your AirPods

Use the Battery Widget on your iOS device

1. Change your home screen

Another way to check the battery status of your AirPods is to use the Battery Widget, which was released in iOS 14. If you don’t have iOS 14 or later, this method won’t be available to you. To add the widget app, simply press and hold an empty space on your home screen until the apps start wobbling. You want to click on the plus sign in the upper left corner of the screen.

Press and hold an empty space on the home screen until the apps start dancing.

2. Find the battery widget

Look for the battery widget.

At the top of the screen, there will be a search bar where you can search through all the widgets available on your device.

3. Click the Batteries widget on the Search Widget tab

Type "batteries" in the search bar.

Type “Batteries” in the search bar and select the Batteries widget.

4. Choose your style and add widgets

Choose your style of Battery Widget.

Scroll to choose the Battery Widget style you prefer and add click “Add Widget” at the bottom of the screen.

5. Move the battery widget to the desired location

Customize your home screen and move the Battery Widget wherever you like.

Press and hold the Batteries widget you just added to the home screen to move it to the desired location.

That’s it, you can now easily check the battery status of your AirPods, charging case, phone, and other Bluetooth devices like an Apple Watch right from the home screen.

Note: If your AirPods aren’t connected to your device, they won’t show up in the Battery Widget. But this is an easy way to check the battery power of the AirPods if you are currently using them with your iOS device.

How to check the battery status of AirPods on your Mac

Click the Bluetooth icon in the menu bar in the upper right corner of the screen to connect your AirPods to your Mac.

Click the Bluetooth icon to connect your AirPods and check the battery charge.

2. Connect your AirPods to your Mac

Click "Connect" to check the battery power of your AirPods on your Mac.

3. Hover your cursor over the name of your AirPods

Hover over the device name in the Bluetooth menu to see the individual battery level for each of your AirPods.

Use the status light

The status light on the AirPods case can tell you the charge status of the AirPods and the AirPods case.

Apple has included a small light on the AirPods case, although the location may vary depending on the model of AirPods and the case you own. Regardless, the different colors can tell you how much juice your case has, as well as your AirPods.

If your case is open with the AirPods inside, the light will tell you the charge status of the AirPods themselves. If your AirPods are not in the case, the light will show you the charge on the case.

A green light indicates that the device is fully charged. An orange light means there is less than one charge left, and it’s probably a good idea to charge the AirPods and / or the case. Fully charged, the AirPod Charging Case should hold more charges, but there are many factors that affect battery life, such as listening volume, device settings, and environment. Apple says the AirPods should get around five hours of listening, or three on a single charge. AirPods Pro, however, get around four and a half hours of listening and three and a half hours of talk time on a single charge.

And if there’s no cost, well, you know what to do.
