How to find gasoline on your route with Google Maps

A necessary part of any road trip is the all-important gas stop. Sometimes, it’s hard to know when your next chance to fill up will be. You can easily add gas stations to your travel plans with Google Maps.

This is a great trick to know because you don’t need to exit browsing to do this. You can simply add a stop to your existing route, refuel your vehicle at the petrol station and then continue your journey. You never have to stop Google Maps.

To get started, open Google Maps on your iPhone, iPad or Android device and start navigating to your destination by tapping “Start”.

Now tap the magnifying glass icon on the right side of the map to perform a search.

You can select “Petrol Stations” or search for a specific petrol station name. This looks slightly different on the iPhone.

Select "Petrol Stations" or do a search.

Petrol stations will appear at the top of the route. They also show the current gas price and how much time will be added to your trip if you stop. Browse the route and select one of the locations.

Choose a petrol station.

After that, the petrol station information will be displayed at the bottom of the screen. You can select “Cancel” or “Add stop”. The petrol station will be automatically added to the route if you wait a few seconds; this is a hands-free function.

Tap "Add stop".

That’s all! Google Maps will now take you to the gas station as you approach. After the stop, you can continue your journey. You can add petrol stations at any time simply by using the search function while traveling.
