How to fix error code 83 on Disney Plus

There are few things more frustrating than a confusing error code on Disney + right when you’re looking at something. Each company uses a different naming system for them, on Disney Plus, one of the most common error codes is “Error Code 83”.

This signals that Disney Plus thinks you are using an “incompatible” device, in other words, it thinks you are trying to watch on a device that cannot actually run the app. This is probably intended as an anti-piracy measure, but the glitches mean you can run into it on the right devices too.

But fortunately, assuming you stay using a compatible device there are some quick ways to fix error code 83. Here’s what you should do.

Check your internet connection

Like most streaming apps, you need a strong internet connection to watch Disney Plus smoothly. And unfortunately, an erratic internet connection can trick Disney Plus into thinking there’s a problem with your device, which will trigger error code 83.

If you are using a wireless internet connection, try strengthening the signal by resetting the router, moving the router closer to the streaming device, turning off other internet-connected devices, or simply connecting to a new signal.

If you’re using a compatible computer, game console, or streaming device, you can also connect to an Ethernet cable.

Restart Disney Plus and your device

You’ve heard the old adage: “Turn it off and on again.” This is still one of the best troubleshooting tips you can find.

First, turn off Disney Plus.

  • On a game console or streaming device, simply close the app.
  • On a phone, swipe up from the bottom of the screen to open the running apps list, then swipe Disney Plus off the screen.
Close the Disney Plus app on an Android phone.

  • On a computer, exit the web browser.

Then open Disney Plus again and try to watch something.

If that doesn’t work, you should turn the device off and on again.

If not, if you’re using your phone, game console, or streaming device, uninstall Disney Plus and download it again.

Update your device and app

Disney Plus has been around for a few years now, so it works on all kinds of devices. But if you haven’t updated your device in a while, Disney Plus may no longer support it.

You can update your device via the Settings menu. If the device you are using is so old that you can’t even install updates, you should consider buying a new one.

You’ll also need to make sure the Disney Plus app itself is up to date.

  • On a game console or streaming device, highlight the Disney Plus app on the home screen and press the options button on the remote.

  • On a phone, go to the iPhone App Store or the Android Play Store.
  • There is no Disney Plus app on a computer, but you can update your web browser by clicking on the three dots or lines in the top right corner. You may need to open your browser’s Settings menu as well.

Make sure you are looking at the right method

Disney Plus supports a variety of different devices. But each of these devices has a specific way you should look at Disney Plus.

For example, if you’re using your iPhone or Android, make sure you’re using the official Disney Plus app. Trying to watch through a web browser will not work.

And on a computer, third-party Disney Plus apps aren’t trustworthy. Instead, use a web browser to go directly to the Disney Plus website.
