As frustrating as it may be, Amazon offers a multi-step return process to ensure customers receive their ordered items or are refunded if something goes wrong and the package is lost in transit.

How you report a missing package to Amazon and how the claim process is handled depends on whether the item was sold by the company or a third-party seller. However, before contacting Amazon with a refund request or a request for information about the location of your package, there are a few ways you can investigate for yourself.

1. Check the tracking information for the order in question via your order history. This will give you up-to-date information on the location of your package.

2. If the status indicates that the package has been delivered, check the area around your house or apartment to locate where the driver may have left the package. You should also check with the neighbors to see if they may have accepted it on your behalf.

3. Check your shipping address to make sure your package has been sent to the correct address by clicking “Order Details”.

4. Contact the courier who delivered the package to see if they have any more information.

After sending the message, you must give the seller 24 hours before proceeding with filing a complaint.

How to submit a missing package claim to Amazon

2. Next to the item that was not received, click on “View / File Complaint”.

3. Following the on-screen instructions, select the reason for your complaint (in this case, the item did not arrive) and provide supporting documentation and additional information, if applicable.

4. Submit your request.

You will be able to see the progress of your request through your Amazon Pay account once you are logged in. If your request is approved, the payment will be refunded to your payment method. However, Amazon may deny your claim if it determines that the information in the claim is fraudulent or if the seller provides proof of delivery.
