How to set up iCloud Drive on your iPhone to sync files between devices

Having a backup is one of those things that doesn’t always seem that important, until your computer crashes and you’ve lost something.

To avoid this problem, you can use iCloud Drive on your iPhone to store your documents. You just need to know how to set it up and access it.

What is iCloud Drive?

iCloud Drive is basically the Apple equivalent of Dropbox. It allows you to access all your documents, online or offline, and to recover deleted files. It also works on various devices, including:

  • iphone
  • iPad
  • Ipod touch
  • Mac
  • Windows PC

Since iCloud Drive is part of iCloud, everything stored in iCloud Drive is subject to iCloud storage capacity. It’s free up to 5GB, although you can purchase more iCloud storage if needed. Individual file sizes in iCloud Drive are also limited to 50GB.

How to set up iCloud Drive

You will need to activate iCloud Drive on all your devices for your information to be synced across them.

On iPhone or iPad

1. Open the Settings app .

2. Tap yours name and Apple ID up.

3. Touch iCloud .

4. Under the section Apps that use iCloud scroll down and move the button iCloud Drive to the right, turning it green, if it isn’t already.

On Mac

1. Click Apple icon in the upper left corner of the screen and select System Preferences .

2. You choose Apple ID . If you are using macOS Mojave or earlier, you will skip this step.

3. Click iCloud in the left sidebar.

4. Sign in using your Apple ID if prompted.

5. Check the box next to iCloud Drive .

6. To add files from the Documents folder and the Mac desktop to iCloud Drive, click Options next to iCloud Drive then check the box Desktop folders and documents.

How to access iCloud Drive on iPhone or iPad

1. Open the app File .

2. To pass to Browse in the lower toolbar, if necessary.

3. Touch i three points in the upper right corner to open a drop-down menu. Select Edit .

4. Use the slider to enable iCloud Drive in the Files app.
