How to update Zoom
To keep your virtual meetings running smoothly and to get a stable overall experience from Zoom, you should keep the Zoom app up to date on all your devices. We will show you how to do just that.
Note: If your device is managed by an IT team in your organization, you may need to contact them to update Zoom.
Refresh the zoom on the desktop
On Windows and Mac, Zoom updates automatically. You just have to activate a one-time setting and enable automatic updates. If you’re having trouble updating, however, you can still force a manual update from within the app or download the latest app file from the Zoom site.
On a Linux machine, you don’t have the auto-update option in Zoom. You will have to rely on manual update methods.
Update Zoom automatically (Windows and Mac)
To have Zoom automatically download and install app updates, enable a one-time option in the app as follows. Make sure you have administrator rights on your computer, as you will need them to activate the option.
Start by opening the Zoom app on your computer. Then, in the top right corner of Zoom, click your profile icon.
In the profile menu, click “Settings”.
In the “Settings” window, from the left sidebar, select “General”.
In the right pane, activate the option “Automatically keep zoom updated”. You may get an admin prompt, where you need to select yes.
Next to the “Automatically keep zoom updated” option, you have a drop-down menu that allows you to select how often you want to receive Zoom updates.
The available options are:
- Slow : If you select this option, Zoom will receive fewer updates but the app experience will be more stable.
- Rapid – This option will provide you with more frequent updates, but at a possible cost of app stability.
Save your settings by closing the “Settings” window.
Update Zoom manually (Windows, Mac and Linux)
If you’re on Linux or if Zoom doesn’t seem to automatically update on your Windows or Mac computer, force the app to check and install new updates.
To do this, first open Zoom on your computer. Then, in the top right corner of Zoom, click your profile icon.
In the menu that opens, click on “Check for updates”.
You will see a “Zoom Update” window. Here, Zoom will automatically check for any available updates. If an update is available, it will be installed. If no updates are available, you will see a message stating “You are up to date”.
When updates are installed, or if no updates are available, close the “Zoom Update” window by clicking “Close”.
And Zoom is now up to date on your computer. You can now join your Zoom meetings with this latest version of the app.
Download and Update Zoom (Windows, Mac and Linux)
In case you encounter an issue where Zoom won’t open on your computer or update using in-app options, download the latest Zoom app from its site and install it on your computer. This way, you will have the latest version of Zoom.
To do this, open a web browser on your computer and access the Zoom Download Center site.
On the site, click the large “Download” button. This downloads the Zoom app to your computer.
Once the app is downloaded, open the folder where you saved it and double-click the app file.
Install the app as usual, and when done, you’ll run the latest version of Zoom. Have a good time!
Update Zoom on Android
On Android phones, use the Google Play Store to keep Zoom up to date.
To check for updates, open the Play Store on your phone. Tap the search box at the top and type “Zoom” (without the quotes).
In the search results, tap “Zoom”.
On the Zoom app page, tap the “Update” button to update the app. If you don’t see this button, your app is already up to date.
Are you done.
Update Zoom on iPhone and iPad
As with Android, on iPhone and iPad, you can use the official App Store to update the Zoom app.
Start by opening the App Store on your phone. In the App Store, at the bottom, tap the “Updates” tab.
In the “Updates” tab, you will see the updates available for all your apps. Here, find “Zoom” and tap “Update” next to it.
If you don’t see “Zoom” listed here, it means that Zoom is already up to date on your phone.
If you’ve tapped the “Update” button, wait for the App Store to install the update. Then, launch Zoom and you will be on the latest version of the app.
