For many of us, our multitasking iPhones have replaced many other tools and gadgets, including cameras, calculators, flashlights, notepads, GPS units, and even our compasses. There is another element your iPhone can replace: a magnifying glass.
Let’s take a look at the iPhone Magnifier app, a super useful free tool that lets you zoom in using your iPhone’s camera.
The iPhone Magnifier app
With Magnifier , you can turn your iPhone or iPad into a magnifying glass so that you can zoom in on objects or text near you. Magnifier uses your iPhone’s built-in camera to zoom in on objects or text so you can view them more easily.
The app allows you to increase the zoom level and turn on the flashlight to better view objects and text. You can also adjust the brightness and contrast of the image and apply color filters. Furthermore, there is the possibility to freeze one or more frames to review them.
How to set up the Magnifier app on your iPhone
The best place to access the Magnifier app is through your iPhone’s “Control Center”. This is the shortcut screen you see when you swipe down from the top right side of your iPhone screen.
To add Magnifier to your Control Center, open your iPhone’s Settings app and scroll down to see “Control Center”. Tap this.
On the next screen, you’ll see the current Control Center configuration, which lists the controls included at the top of the screen and other controls you can add at the bottom. Look for the Magnifying Glass option and tap on the green plus sign icon next to it.
The magnifying glass will now appear in the Control Center options.
To reorder the Control Center shortcut icons, go back to Settings, then Control Center and tap the three lines that appear next to each tool. Drag and drop to rearrange.
Using the iPhone Magnifier app
Now that you’ve set up Magnifier in your iPhone’s Control Center, whenever you want to use it, simply swipe down on the right side of your iPhone screen and tap the Magnifier shortcut icon.
This will launch the app and you will see your live view window at the top of the screen and the various Magnifier controls at the bottom.
The controls of the iPhone Magnifier are as follows:
- Adjust the zoom level: Drag the zoom control slider left or right.
- Switch to front or rear camera: tap the button to switch cameras with the arrows, then tap front or rear.
- Adjust brightness: Tap the sun-shaped brightness button.
- Adjust the contrast: Tap the two-tone circle contrast button.

How to customize the controls of the Magnifier app
The default configuration of the Magnifier controls will be more than adequate for most iPhone owners; however, you can customize how they appear on the screen. To do this, when in the Magnifier app, tap the gear icon at the bottom left of the screen.
On the next screen, you can drag and drop by tapping the three line icons to change the order of the controls. You can also choose to set two options as primary controls.
