How to use the Skype Meet Now feature

Meet Now is a relatively new Skype feature that allows you to quickly and easily conduct meetings with other Skype users and with people who don’t have a Skype account.

It is Microsoft’s alternative to web conferencing tools such as Zoom, have recently become popular to meet the growing need for remote meetings.

How to start a Skype Meet Now

You can start Meet Now from your Skype app on your desktop or from the mobile app.

  • On your desktop computer , launch the Skype desktop app and click “Meet Now” on the left side of the screen. Click “Share Invitation”. In the drop-down menu, you can copy the link to send to other people outside the Skype app or use the options in the menu to share the link via email. When ready, click “Start Call”.
  • On a mobile device , launch the Skype app and tap the New Chat icon (it looks like a pencil). On the iPhone or iPad app, you will find it at the top right; on Android, it’s at the bottom right. Tap “Meet Now”. Share the meeting invitation with other attendees, then tap Start Meeting.

Once the meeting has started, you can conduct the meeting like a normal Skype session.

How to join Skype Meet Now

For participate in Meet Now, the meeting code or link is required, which the meeting organizer must share with you via email or text message. To join the meeting, the app does not need to be installed or have a Skype account.

To join the meeting, you need to install one of these three things on your computer or mobile device:

  • The Skype app
  • Google Chrome browser
  • Microsoft Edge browser

To join the meeting, tap or click the link. Then choose to launch the app or open the meeting in a browser. That’s it – you are now in the meeting. If you join without enabling the microphone, you will be able to listen and send chat messages if you need to share information.
