Fill out a pdf e-mail attachment
The markup tool has undergone some major improvements with iOS 14 and now supports smart features like shape recognition etc. You can use the markup tool to annotate any PDF on your iPhone and fill out forms with tools like text fields, signatures, check marks, etc.
Start by downloading the PDF form you received in your mail. Tap the PDF attachment to upload a preview to the Gmail app e tap the Share button in the top right corner .
In the Share sheet, tap Save file . You will be asked to save the file in the Files app, select a location and press Save .
Access the PDF on your iPhone. It is usually found in the Files app. Tap the file to upload a preview of the PDF e tap the Markup button (pencil tip) in the upper right corner.
To fill in the blank fields in the PDF, you can use the Text tool, it would overlay the text on the blank PDF, and you can repeat the steps for all fields individually. Touch simply the + button in the lower right corner , next to the color wheel icon. Here you would see an option to add text, add a signature, zoom in and draw shapes. Enough tap the text button to add a text field.
Long press the text field box to display a popup menu e tap Edit . Now you can type in the relevant information and place it in the desired location.
You can change the font, adjust the size, set the orientation and color of the text. Touch simply the text button below, next to the color palette.
iOS 14 also incorporates the shape recognition tool into Markup which allows you to draw cleaner shapes. For example, if you want to add a check mark in a form box, simply use the marker tool and draw a check mark and hold your finger until the shape transforms.
Add a signature to your PDFs
Just as we added custom text to the PDF, we can also add a signature. You can create your own signature and use it to quickly add signatures to your documents.
Tap the + button at the bottom of the PDF markup window to display the popup menu. Select Signature .
Tap “Add or remove signature” to open the list of all saved signatures. To add a new signature, tap the + button in the top left corner .
Create a digital copy of your signature with your finger. You can make multiple attempts to make it perfect. Tap Done when done .
Place the signature anywhere in the PDF e tap Done at the top left to save the changes.
This was a quick and easy way to annotate and sign your PDFs on your iPhone. The markup tool is feature-rich and highly intuitive which eliminates the need for a third-party app. What do you think of this method? Let me know in the comments below or contact me on Twitter .
