Pokemon Go January 2022 Events: Raids, Discoveries, and More

2022 is around the corner and Pokemon Go is ringing in the new year with a variety of events and activities. In the coming weeks, the Pokemon mobile game will hold new legendary Pokemon raids, on Community Day in January and some other in-game events. Here’s everything that’s happening in Pokemon Go in January 2022.

Turnaround of January research: Onix

New Field Research Assignments and Rewards will be available in Pokemon Go starting January 1st, as well as a new Research Break encounter. Whenever you reach a research breakthrough in January, you will earn the chance to catch the Onix rock Pokemon. In addition, you will also receive some Steelix Mega Energy.

Research progress is tied to the stamps you receive from field research activities. You will earn a stamp for the first task you complete each day and must collect seven stamps in total to get a breakthrough in the search. Any stamps you earned last month will be kept until you reach a search breakthrough.

January spotlight times

Pokemon Go’s weekly Spotlight Hour event will continue in January. Every Tuesday evening from 6pm to 7pm local time, the game will feature a different Pokemon and bonuses, such as increased XP or candy. Below you can see the full schedule of January’s Spotlight Hour:

January 4th

  • Featured Pokémon: Solosis
  • Featured Bonus: 2 Transferable Candies

January 11

  • Featured Pokémon: Diglett
  • Spotlight Bonus: 2x Stardust Catch

January 18

  • Pokemon Spotlight: Plusle
  • Spotlight Bonus: 2x Candy Catch

January 25

  • Featured Pokémon: Minun
  • Featured Bonus: 2 Transferable Candies

January raid

A handful of Legendary Pokemon will appear in five-star raids throughout January. Heatran will return to the raid rotation on January 7 after Kyurem’s departure, while Shock Drive Genesect and Regice will appear later in the month. Additionally, Mega Aerodactyl will make its Mega Raid debut starting January 7. You can see the January raid schedule below:

January community day


The Community Day from January of Pokemon Go takes place on Sunday 16th January. This month’s featured monster is the Ice Pokemon Spheal, which will appear in the wild much more frequently than usual during the event. Additionally, you’ll earn triple XP for catching Pokemon, and any Sealeo you evolve into Walrein will learn the Powder Snow Quick Attack and Icicle Spear Charged Attack.

Mountains of Power Event

Pokemon Go will be holding a new event called Mountains of Power from January 7th to January 13th. Few details have been revealed so far, but more information will be announced as we get closer to the event.
