Smartphone browser? Pros and Cons of Firefox Focus

The new Firefox Focus automatically blocks a wide range of online trackers, from the moment you start it to the moment you leave it. Easily clear your history, passwords and cookies, so not to be followed by things like unwanted ads.

How to optimize Firefox for better performance

Install Firefox Focus

First of all, open the app store on your platform, then search ” Firefox Focus ”And install it to try it out for yourself. If it’s not available and if you’re using Android, go to “Mozilla.org/firefox/mobile” in your web browser. Then, click “Download the APK” in Firefox Focus and install the APK.

When I initially opened the app, I stayed amazed by its simplicity . The design of its homepage, which only shows a search bar, is inspired by the clean interface of Mozilla Firefox. But that is not all. I was more amazed when I checked its Settings. It includes various features advanced for the privacy of which you can read below.

Firefox Focus features

Firefox Focus is a browser innovative web with many blessings, but obviously not without curses. Let’s start with its valuable benefits first.

Automatic privacy

Your privacy is automatically managed by this enhanced browser, from the moment you start browsing until the moment you finish your browsing session. So, delete the browsing session just before closing, which includes any imprints left by mistake such as cookies, local data or storage etc.

Easy options

Firefox Focus has a minimum number of settings, it can be by design or by virtue of the fact that it is a new browser. However, you only get the options you need to protect your privacy. What’s more interesting? It offers some advanced options like invisible pages and fingerprint protection to fortify them.

Advantages of ad blocking

The browser blocks all ads on the fly without add-ons or extensions like AdBlock Plus. Since the feature is native, you can enjoy faster speed with Firefox Focus. Also, yours Native block lists are provided by Disconnectmaking them excellent at blocking almost any ad on every page or site.

Tracking protection

Along with ads, Firefox Focus also blocks all trackers by default. The list includes ad agency trackers like Facebook Ads and analytics solutions like Google Analytics. In this way you can be sure no one is following you on the web and tracking your browsing habits such as form entries and searches.

Better performance

Firefox Focus, thanks to its ad blocking and tracking protection features, speeds up your browsing experience. Since it blocks most elements, especially the heavier parts, of any web page, the browser requires less data to load from the web. It also uses less memory, hence more performance.

What Firefox Focus lacks

No tabbed browsing

Firefox Focus doesn’t offer dedicated support for opening multiple tabs, that is it is not possible to create two tabs by entering URLs in the address bar. However, you can open links in new tabs, thankfully. It’s harder to use than Chrome or Firefox, but it’s a good one if you’re looking for a private browsing experience.

The usual features are missing

While the browser is packed with privacy features, it lacks the common features we look forward to in a modern web browser. The exclusion list does not include support for add-ons, bookmarks, night mode , etc. I was also missing the back buttons and tab selector along with no support for caching open tabs.

Proxy not supported

The browser does not support adding a proxy for web browsing despite its wide range of privacy features. This means that you cannot hide your navigation and location data by using a proxy in Firefox Focus. Fortunately, you can use a VPN like all VPN providers for Android and Orbot (Tor) in its VPN mode.

Firefox Focus vs. other browsers

Since we now know everything about Firefox Focus, let’s compare its features with other browsers, especially the most popular browsers. I will also compare it to the safest browser on the planet – Tor Browser – along with its features.

Focus against Chrome and Firefox

Google Chrome and Mozilla Firefox are the most popular browsers with many great features and performance. Firefox Focus is incomparable with them since yes focus on private browsing . Furthermore, Focus is only three years old while the other two browsers are at least ten years old. So it is incomparable!

Chrome and Firefox are our everyday browsers and we’re used to their functionality too. When we don’t find them in Firefox Focus, we miss them. For example, these browsers have tabbed browsing, bookmark support and more. That said, you may feel uncomfortable at first, but the privacy features provided are worth it.

Firefox Focus versus Tor Browser

Tor Browser is a browser built for privacy and security that is used by journalists and privacy enthusiasts around the world. While its mobile version is still in alpha mode, it includes superb privacy-oriented features. His feature list is far greater than that of Focus and includes anti-browser finger-printing capabilities.

However, Firefox Focus is available for both Android and iOS, but Tor Browser is only available for Android (at the time of writing). This is why iOS users are happier with Focus than Android users (as you’ll see below).

Should you switch to Focus?

You can switch to Firefox Focus if you like, but I suggest you don’t set it as your default browser. For what reason? AND ‘ lacking in everyday features such as tabbed browsing and support for bookmarks and passwords. That said, you can use it as your default browser if you can do without the usual features of a browser.
