The truth behind Hawkeye's mysterious Rolex

The truth behind Hawkeye’s mysterious Rolex

In episode 6 of Eye from Falcon , let’s discover the secret behind the mysterious Rolex watch. It is quickly mentioned in episode 1 of Eye from falcon and from episode 6 we actually know what the clock means. However, for those unfamiliar with Marvel lore and comics, there are still many questions about the watch’s meaning.

In episode 4, we learn a little more about the clock when there is a list of names next to it: all the Barton family names. Clint reveals that this could be disastrous because it could reveal the identity of someone who has “been out of business for a while”. So who could it be? Well, episode 6, the ending of Eye of Falco, suggests it is his wife, Laura Barton.

The clock in ‘Hawkeye’ means Laura Barton could have been a superhero.

When Clint finally comes home for Christmas, he gives the mysterious Rolex watch to his wife, Laura. “I want you to take better care of your things,” Clint jokes as he gives her.

Laura flips the watch over, which reveals the number 19 under the SHIELD logo. What does this mean? Well, maybe Laura could be the person “close to Clint”, as she says in episode 4, that she has been out of the picture for a while.

Laura Barton in 'Hawkeye'

Let’s think about it. She has never been seen outside the farm they live on. Isn’t that a little suspicious? Why does Laura Barton spend her life holed up on a farm?

She’s not even in New York City with Clint and their kids when they’re all seeing Rogers: The Musical . We know that SHIELD has been working to ensure a safe place for Clint and his family, but maybe that’s not just because Clint is Hawkeye. It could be because Laura Barton is Mockingbird.

The Rolex watch suggests that Laura Barton may actually be Mockingbird.

If Laura Barton were a superhero, the most likely explanation would be that she is Mockingbird. Why? Well, in the comics, Mockingbird and Hawkeye are often paired together.

Although her name is Bobbi Morse in the comics, it’s entirely possible that Laura was once Bobbi Morse but she had to change her name when she went into hiding or witnessed protection (or whatever the official Bartons’ situation is).

Mockingbird in comics

Not only that, but the watch has the number 19 on it, which suggests it belonged to SHIELD Agent 19. In the comics, Bobbi is Agent 19 and his alias is Mockingbird.

Sure, there’s something quite poetic about Mockingbird and Hawkeye, two avian superhero names, which end up together. But beyond that, it offers seasoned actress Linda Cardellini a far more intense story than we’ve always hoped for.

Whether the MCU is reconnecting to make Linda’s character more important, or whether there is indeed a future for Mockingbird in the MCU, we’re not sure yet.

However, if they find a way to tie in Linda Cardellini’s Agent 19 at Netflix SHIELD agents Agent 19 (which never officially goes by the name of Mockingbird in the series) then the MCU will finally be servicing fans in a very satisfying way.

All episodes of Eye from Falcon are now available to stream on Disney Plus.
