TikTok is one of the most popular social networks today, but like any platform or app, it can sometimes malfunction. Here’s how to get TikTok to work when you encounter a variety of potential problems.
What to do if TikTok doesn’t work
The best way to fix a problem with TikTok is usually as you would any other glitch – start with the simplest solution and progressively move to more cumbersome methods as you rule out potential problems.
Make sure you have an internet connection
While this may seem obvious, TikTok won’t work without an internet connection. Make sure your device is connected via Wi-Fi or cellular data. If you are using cellular data, make sure that TikTok has permission to use the data as well.
Is there an app update available?
Sometimes all TikTok needs is an update. Someone else has probably encountered the problem they encountered earlier, and the developer may have released an update that already fixes the problem.
If you are on an Android device, go to Play Store , search for TikTok and see if an update is available. For an iOS device, go at the App Store tap your profile icon and scroll down to see if there is an update.
Try restarting the app (or phone)
It may be a tired cliché, but that’s only because it’s true. Many technical problems are solved really by turning it off and on again. First, close TikTok on your phone and reopen it. If this solves the problem, you are done. If not, try turning off your iPhone or Android, turn it back on and try opening TikTok again.
Check if TikTok is inactive
While TikTok rarely has any problems and is generally a reliable app, the services sometimes have hiccups. You can check if TikTok is down by using DownDetector or searching for “is tikTok inactive?” in Google search.
Try TikTok on another device
At this point, it might be time to ask a friend if TikTok works for them. Alternatively, you can try going up TikTok.com in a web browser (preferably on another device) and see if it loads and works correctly. If not, then the problem is likely not with the phone and an outage of some kind has occurred.
If you’re already using a browser and don’t have another device available, you can try another web browser, such as Firefox, Chrome, or Brave.
Reinstall the app
If TikTok worked on another device or browser from the previous section, the problem appears to be with your device. Try deleting the app and re-downloading it from the App Store (iOS) or Play Store (Android) to see if that fixes the problem.
Contact TikTok Support
If all else fails, contact the TikTok support team. You can email TikTok or use its feedback form to get support on a number of specific questions and issues.
